Lesson 1: Introduction to the Great Bear Sea

This lesson introduces students to the region known as the Great Bear Sea – an ecologically biodiverse and culturally important marine area for British Columbia. Students will be introduced to the four sub-regions of the Great Bear Sea (Central Coast, Haida Gwaii, North Coast, and North Vancouver Island) and consider how this unique area functions in BC in terms of ecological, social/cultural, geographic and economic significance. Students will use these lenses in exploring how healthy ecosystems might contribute to economic prosperity and cultural well-being for generations to come.
